Walking the Ramp with Saif was special for Kareena

Kareena KapoorBollywood actress Kareena Kapoor, who strutted down the ramp for her friend Manish Malhotra’s bridal collection at the ongoing HDIL India Couture Week here with her boyfriend Saif Ali Khan, says it was a very special show for her.

"I have walked the ramp so many times in the past for my friend Manish, but this was different and very special because for the first time I was walking with Saif. It’s always a special feeling to be with him," said Kareena.

Added Saif: "Yeah, it was a lot of fun. We had fun during rehearsals as well."

While sashaying down the ramp Kareena kept looking at the audiences smilingly while Saif managed to keep a poker face.

The front row was occupied by an array of Bollywood celebrities who had to squeeze in to get a place in the jam-packed show area.

Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Kajol, Imran Khan, Dino Morea, Uday Chopra, Sophie Chaudhary, and Boney Kapoor and Sridevi who came with their daughters, added to the glamour quotient.

The collection was called "Destination Wedding" and the set decorated with white drapes falling from the rooftop looked like a dream sequence of a Bollywood movie.

The line had an interesting combination of colours like peach, ivory and beige. With minimalist embroidery and a lot of bling, Malhotra`s collection was stylish and at the same time sexy as well.

The range had everything a bride could dream of - from lehengas to off-shoulder kurtas, from long jackets to stylish cholis.

Twinkle Khanna too shy to walk the ramp

Twinkle Khanna

Both her mother Dimple Kapadia and hubby Akshay Kumar have sashayed down the ramp numerous times but Bollywood actress Twinkle Khanna says that she is too shy to do it.

"I am too shy to walk the ramp. I am not at all interested. All I like is to sit back and watch Akshay, my mom or my friends doing the honour. You will never see me walking the ramp," Twinkle told at the inaugural show of HDIL India Couture Week that started on Monday.

"I am happy as an interior designer and that is something I am best at. I would like to stick to it," she added.

Dressed in a fuchsia short dress, Twinkle looked gorgeous. Her presence at the event was due to her jewellery designer friend Farah Khan.

"I am here to cheer for her. She is a friend and an excellent jewellery designer as well," Twinkle said.

Who is The Prettiest and hottest at the HDIL COURTURE FASHION WEEK ?

The week gone by witnessed much glamour with an array of Bollywood stars and beauty queens scorching the ramp for 11 of the country's top designers in a celebration of luxe and opulence at HDIL's India Couture Week 2008 fashion show. This was India's first ever 'couture week', a complete star–studded affair.

And the show–stealers of this 6–day gala event were none other than the dazzling Bollywood beauties like Karishma Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Neha Dhupia. Each of these pretty lasses displayed the spectacular designs by the topmost designers of India. The couture week kick started with Ritu Kumar's collections displayed by Priyanka Chopra, Neha Dhupia, Riya and Raima Sen, etc. followed by Karisma Kapoor's elegant look created by designer Manav Gangwani. While Day 4 of couture week saw proud pa Anil Kapoor's daughter Sonam Kapoor showcasing lovely collections of Designer Anamika Khanna than day 5 was arrested by the sultry siren Shilpa Shetty, who sizzled the ramp (with impeccable Indian bride attire trimming it with a bride's coy smile) in Tarun Tahiliani's chic collections.

All these divine goddesses looked stunningly beautiful in their attires. And it becomes quite unfair to compare these beauty icons.

Ritu Kumari rocks the HDIL Couture fashion week.

The show stopper of the evening Tuesday was Bollywood actress and former Miss India World 2008 Priyanka Chopra in a maroon lehnga with intricate zardozi work all over and a green choli with a big emerald green maang tikka on her forehead.

Apart from her, Bollywood actress and former Miss India 2002 Neha Dhupia, actresses Riya and Raima Sen, regaining Miss India World 2008 Parvathy Omanakuttan, Miss India Earth 2008 Tanvi Vyas and Miss India Earth 2006 Amruta Patki also walked the ramp for the designer.

Miss India 1976 Anna Bredmeyer, Sonalika Oberoi and Shyamolee Verma brought back the magic of yesterday's era on the ramp.

The collection interprets Indian fashion in a way that is so aesthetically grand, rich, classical and exotic at the same time that it makes for a look that could stand out on any ramp in any part of the world," Kumar said after the show. The colour and sensuous quality of Indian clothing comes through with a vigour and a sense of bindaas (carefree) style that rejuvenates traditional norms with its bohemian take on fashion.

Kumar's collection was divided into four different lines.

The opener was a collection of black and gold evening gowns, chogas, long tunics, saris, lehngas, anarkali suits and Kutchi gathered coats worn over divided loose pants with dhapka, mukaish and a range of metallic embellishments on them.

The second line comprised a white and silver collection. Gota work and silver trims dominated the embroidery portion of heavy weight saris, lehngas and gowns.

The third line was an example of designer's imagination that she terms 'modern couture'. Kumar showcased a beautiful and elegant collection of coats, trench and bomber jackets, all trimmed with leather and worn with tights and boots.

The fourth line was in soft pastels with peshwaz and lehngas in subtle colors with intricate embellishments, dull gold and metallic threads.

While everyone was praising the designer for her grand collection, Omanakuttan, who will be donning Kumar's collection at the Miss World contest, jokingly said: "Everything is perfect. My only complaint is that the lenghas were very heavy”. The India Couture Week is the latest initiative of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), which annually stages two editions of the hugely successful Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi.
