The show stopper of the evening Tuesday was Bollywood actress and former Miss India World 2008 Priyanka Chopra in a maroon lehnga with intricate zardozi work all over and a green choli with a big emerald green maang tikka on her forehead.
Apart from her, Bollywood actress and former Miss India 2002 Neha Dhupia, actresses Riya and Raima Sen, regaining Miss India World 2008 Parvathy Omanakuttan, Miss India Earth 2008 Tanvi Vyas and Miss India Earth 2006 Amruta Patki also walked the ramp for the designer.
Miss India 1976 Anna Bredmeyer, Sonalika Oberoi and Shyamolee Verma brought back the magic of yesterday's era on the ramp.
The collection interprets Indian fashion in a way that is so aesthetically grand, rich, classical and exotic at the same time that it makes for a look that could stand out on any ramp in any part of the world," Kumar said after the show. The colour and sensuous quality of Indian clothing comes through with a vigour and a sense of bindaas (carefree) style that rejuvenates traditional norms with its bohemian take on fashion.
Kumar's collection was divided into four different lines.
The opener was a collection of black and gold evening gowns, chogas, long tunics, saris, lehngas, anarkali suits and Kutchi gathered coats worn over divided loose pants with dhapka, mukaish and a range of metallic embellishments on them.
The second line comprised a white and silver collection. Gota work and silver trims dominated the embroidery portion of heavy weight saris, lehngas and gowns.
The third line was an example of designer's imagination that she terms 'modern couture'. Kumar showcased a beautiful and elegant collection of coats, trench and bomber jackets, all trimmed with leather and worn with tights and boots.
The fourth line was in soft pastels with peshwaz and lehngas in subtle colors with intricate embellishments, dull gold and metallic threads.
While everyone was praising the designer for her grand collection, Omanakuttan, who will be donning Kumar's collection at the Miss World contest, jokingly said: "Everything is perfect. My only complaint is that the lenghas were very heavy”. The India Couture Week is the latest initiative of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), which annually stages two editions of the hugely successful Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in New Delhi.
