Preity Zinta-Ness Wadia break up now made public

After trying to keep her break-up with the eligible business tycoon Ness Wadia under wraps, it was Preity Zinta’s astute business acumen that brought the truth in front of public. This much celebrated B-town couple’s recent actions sparked many such split rumors, though the couple vehemently denied all such speculations.

While the reason for the split is still unknown it is heard that Preety Zinta’s ‘relationship with Wadia is only professional and they are just work buddies.

The Preity-Ness relationship showed cracks when the inseparable love-birds started to make solo appearances.

Now there are no more hushed whispers when both Preity and Ness are around. Neither are people uncomfortable around them. It is really mature of her to be so straight and clear cut about her personal and professional life.

Well, bleeding hearts and broken homes have become a regular in filmdom - Preity Zinta is not the first one and she is certainly not the last too.

Salman to cheer for Preety Zinta - Rival of SRK at IPL

There has not been a very healthy relation between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan ever since there was a fight of sorts at Kat’s birthday party which has not yet recovered. While Shah Rukh has kept his silence on this front, Salman has been loud and clear and has done everything he could to make sure his dislike for SRK is well pronounced.

First he had joined hands with Aamir, and now he will cheer for SRK's rival - Preity Zinta. She may not have bad terms with SRK but she definitely is his competitor at the IPL.

Shah Rukh is leaving no stone unturned to get most of the biggies of Bollywood for his Kolkata Knight Riders' matches; Salman will be cheering for Preity Zinta's Kings XI Punjab with his entire family. He is expected to take time out from the shooting of his film Veer in London only to fly to SA for Preity.

One can definitely trust Bollywood and it's rivalries to spice up everything- EVEN CRICKET!!

Preity Zinta shot with a real snake

Preity Zinta is most probably one of the boldest actress of Bollywood. Recently she shared screen space with a cobra for climatic sequence in Deepa Mehta's latest flick-Heaven On Earth. Mr Mehta was not really sure if Preity would be able top pull it off but to his surprise Preity did an excellent job.

Preity had nightmares before they shot this crucial sequence. But somehow Preity did the job. Recalling this dangerous experience, Preity says, "I had to put my hand into a hole in the ground, take out this big long snake and not just hold it but also put it around my neck. It was a harrowing in the script. I wondered how I'd manage on camera."

The film has episodes from Girish Karnad's play Naag Mandala where the battered wife imagines the naag devta transforming into a caring loving husband as an alternative life to her nightmarish reality.

Incidentally, not too many of our Bollywood queens have shot with real snakes.

Preity goes to School

Acting wise, the pretty Preity Zinta may not exactly be a (late) Smita Patil or a Konkona Sen Sharma, but she has proved her histrionic capabilities with films like SANGHARSH (1999), KYA KEHNA (2000), VEER ZAARA (2004) and recently in Rituparno Ghosh's THE LAST LEAR. But that does not stop Preity from honing her acting skills further as proved by the preparations she has put in for her role in Samir Karnik's upcoming Diwali release, HEROES.

Preity plays a widow in HEROES and the role required her to speak with an almost perfect Punjabi accent. Now Preity is from Shimla and educated at a public school there and so despite knowing Punjabi she was not fluent in the language. So she went to a top acting school and got herself trained and tutored for the same. The results are there for all to see in the promos of HEROES, where Preity looks every inch a part of the character.

Heaven On Earth is a Movie with a Difference

The film titled Heaven On Earth is about the life of a bride from Punjab which changes in the course of just seven days. Deepa Mehta's Heaven on Earth is screened at the Toronto Film Festival on 6th September at the prestigious Elgin theatre.” I'm proud to have my film there in the 'Special Representation' section," says Deepa.

The film's leading lady Preity Zinta had joined Deepa in Toronto for the Festival screening. "And that's when Preity dubbed her portion of the film in Hindi", informs Deepa. The Punjabi film is being dubbed into Hindi as a two-language film on the insistence of the film's Indian distributor Ravi Chopra. However, Deepa insists that the Hindi version will have a very restricted screening. “The language of the film is Punjabi," she insists. The entire cast barring Preity is from Toronto.

Salman and Priety together this Diwali

Salman Khan and Preity Zinta are being seen together in Heroes Two years after being paired together in Jaane Mann. Incidentally both the films are Diwali releases and while Jaane Mann was released on 20th October, 2006, Heroes is arriving exactly two years later on 24th October 2008.

Salman and Preity would be hoping though that Heroes does well since Jaane Mann of being a well made film, was massacred at the box office due to King Khan’s Don.

They play cameos in the film and are a part of one of the many segments in Heroes. There is this entire Sunny Deol-Bobby Deol track and also the one where Mithun and Dino come together. The film basically tells the journey of two youngsters (Sohail Khan and Vatsal Seth) as they come across all these 'real heroes'.''

However, even though Salman and Preity aren't seen throughout the length of the film, the couple does spell success, as witnessed from the films they have done in the past which have gone on to be box office successes. When they came together for the first time, Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega, the film was a hit. Their next outing, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke was successful as well. Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha was a flop though but Preity has a small role in the film. They looked good together in Jaane Mann and it would certainly have been a success had the film not collided with Don.''

Directed by Samir Karnik, Heroes would be Salman Khan's second film in one month itself. A fortnight earlier, i.e. 10th October, Salman would also be seen in a special appearance in Hello.

The Last Lear fails to impress the Audience

Rituparno Ghosh, one of the finest storytellers from Bengal, chooses Utpal Dutt's play 'Aajker Shahjahan' as the premise for his new endeavour "THE LAST LEAR". The plotline is the type that holds appeal for a miniscule section of audience.

The problem with THE LAST LEAR is that there's too much Shakespeare in the movie, which everyone cannot dissolve. Besides, all theatre themes may not hold good on cinematic level.

Yet, there's no denying that THE LAST LEAR has its share of engrossing moments. A few individualistic sequences are noteworthy as also the portrayal of characters by some prominent names. But that's not enough!

In a nutshell, THE LAST LEAR fails to connect. At best, it may find some patronage at Festivals, but there's nothing for Indian moviegoers.

Harry [Amitabh Bachchan] lives for acting, loves theatre, adores Shakespeare and absolutely detests cinema. Enter Siddharth [Arjun Rampal], a movie director. He is smart, Harry finds out in the very first meeting. He is glad to have found a cerebral partner to have a conversation with.

Slowly, they bond over coffees, vodka and conversations. Harry decides to work in Siddharth's film. New relationships blossom. But an incident changes everything…

Director Rituparno Ghosh's choice of the subject has its limitations. It's good to think different, but THE LAST LEAR is abstract. From the writing point of view, a number of points remain unexplained and even if they are, it's difficult to decipher.

Like, for instance, Shefali Shah's hatred for Preity is unexplainable. Also, the accident and the aftermath lack clarity. Why does Arjun want a retake? Why does he want Amitabh to perform the death-defying jump all over again? This, when he knows that Amitabh can't see without his glasses. This and many more questiopns remains unanswered.

Amitabh Bachchan is the life of THE LAST LEAR. But it's definitely not his best performance so far. The actor has delivered stronger performances in the past. He's good, not great. Arjun is evolving into a fine actor. After ROCK ON!!, this is another performance that would fetch Arjun laurels. Preity is very effective. Shefali Shah is superb. Divya Dutta is wasted. Prosenjit is alright. Jishu impresses.

On the whole, THE LAST LEAR has something for the Festival circuit, but nothing for the cinema-going audience in India.

Preity new looks stuns many ..

Preity Zinta has played the glam doll to perfection in many films. But in her next release, The Last Lear, the bubbly actress would be seen in a different look from what she has been sporting in her last few films. Preity would be seen wearing some really beautiful sarees and salwar suits in the film. One look at this picture and you will agree that she indeed looks ravishing even in a saree.

Preity herself loved the experience of getting decked up in a saree. "What a pleasant change it was, from all the dolled up work I have done. I got to play Shabnam, someone so real! I love my look in the film. Ever since the posters of The Last Lear are out, the compliments haven't stopped coming in! Everyone's look in the film is extremely different. You can trust Rituparno Ghosh to surprise everyone with his films, even his own actors!", says the bubbly actress.

The Last Lear, which opens across cinema halls on September 12th 2008, has generated tremendous curiosity amongst audiences ever since the promos began. People are inquisitive to find out the roles that Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal play in this hatke film. In fact, Amitabh's performance in The Last Lear has been hailed by many as the best of his illustrious career. As for Preity, considering the fact that she has become so choosy about selecting the right films and that her last release (Jhoom Barabar Jhoom) was in June 2007, all her fans must surely be charged up to see their favorite actress don a brand new avatar! The wait would be worth it, we are sure!

Minisha Lamba reffered to as Priety's Clone

The moment Minissha Lamba was launched in Yahaan , stories of her bearing an uncanny resemblance to our pretty woman Preity Zinta started doing the rounds. Few blamed the pretty lass’ Zinta-esque beauty the reason for their comparison while some thought it is their Himachal connection that made them look similar.

While Preity belongs to an army family residing in Shimla, Minissha’s family too is based in Srinagar and the young actor has even lived in Kashmir for two years. Both actresses are well educated. Where Preity has graduated in psychology, Minissha has a degree in English honours!

As far as the careers of these Punjabi kudis are concerned, Preity too shot to fame after initial stint as a tv model. She was appreciated in Liril and Perk ad while it was Minissha’s Cadbury ad which made her grab attention! Modelling for both wasn’t planned and same goes for movies. If not in films, both girls have expressed their desire of wanting to become war correspondents and co-incidentally both fulfilled their dream by being one in their films! Preity as Romila Dutta in Lakshya and Minissha in Shaurya .

Both actresses love to read books and are extremely well read in the industry.

Last but not the least their pleasing look, ‘bubbly’ image and a million watt smile that is capable of lighting up a dark room is what makes them extremely similar. One person who couldn’t agree more with us is none other than actor Ranbir Kapoor, who happens to be Minissha’s co-star in Bachna Ae Haseeno !

Here is what Ranbir had to say on the issue - “I think there is a void of that Preity Zinta kind of actress in today’s day and age, I think Minissha Lamba fits the bill perfectly to the “T”. It was great fun working with her. She is one of the people who wreaks goodness, as she has no negativity inside her. She is very unassuming; she kept to her own on the sets. I think she has done a wonderful job playing an 18 year old and 25 year old, so you can see the growth in her character too and I am sure you guys are going to love her.

Preity meets Dina adia with Open Mouth

Preity says that every time she meets Dina Wadia, she comes away floored. Says Preity, “The first time I met her, I stared at her open mouthed. My goodness, she carries so much history within her! Since then we’ve met over dinner and at other social occasions several times. Each time I’m struck by her gentle demeanour, her classic elegance, and yes, her fragility.”

While speaking about one of her favourite women, Preity’s voice lights up. She continues, “I was also struck by her unmistakable facial resemblance to her illustrious father (Jinnah). I’ve never seen two people who resemble each other so closely.”

Preity says she has met Dina Wadia both in Mumbai and abroad. “She lives in New York. But she visits Mumbai where she has close family. She carries an aura of unmistakable strength. Every time I meet her, there’s so much to imbibe from her. There are some people in this world who just carry an aura about them.

She’s one of them.” The last time when they met, Dina wanted to know about Preity’s IPL matches. “She takes a lot of interest in my life. The last time we met, she wanted to know all about the IPL matches. She’s so important to our times as a woman and a figure in history and yet conveys so much joie de vivre in her attitude. I just want to sit with her and listen to her.”
