With her perfectly rehearsed speeches and prim and proper dressing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan comes across as the perfect bahurani, but looks like even the ever so gorgeous lady has some skeletons locked away in her closet.
And, one such ghost has now emerged to haunt her and has infact dragged her all the way to the Bombay High court. Wonder what is this fuss about. Well, back in her Miss World pageant winning days, Ash had made an outrageous claim of being an NRI in a bid to escape the tax assessment on £50,000 that she had won as price money.
And now a news daily has reports that the Income Tax commissioner has dragged the actress to the Bombay High Court against her claim. Though the actress opposed the commissioner's appeal through her counsel Percy Pardiwalla, a bench headed by Justice S Radhakrishnan thought it fit to admit it.
This is not the first time that the pretty lady has played a spill sport in tax ammeters. Back in the year 2004, I-T authorities ordered that the income of 50,000 pounds she had received for winning the Miss World title must be added to her income and she be taxed accordingly. The tax amount was approximately Rs 14 lakh which, IT officers say, with interest would now amount to almost Rs 50 lakh.
However, not a favorable response had come from the famous Bachchan daughter-in-law. Looks like, the sultry lass has no time for such miniscule money matters.
